Hello, I am new to this forum. I am looking to add my first 1911 to my M&P9c and my PM9. I am. I've got experience with 9mm and 45 acp 1911's, but have never fired a 10 mm. I never really considered the 10mm in the past, but now its one of the few calibers that I can readily find online and at the LGS. I tend to agree with Papa in that if I choose to invest in my first 10mm handgun,. The .45 ACP is not really any better than the 9mm Luger, it's just different. Pick the one you like, learn how to shoot it and stop wasting time arguing about something neither you nor anyone else will ever be able to prove. The post .45 ACP vs 9mm: Which Is Better? appeared first on Gun Digest In no way is the .45 acp any better. That's misinformation via the original Marcostyle video that showed only the .45 acp on his graph because he completely skipped over the 9mm sbr (he thought the tactical 9mm and non tactical were the same or something, the tactical 9mm has a laughable base mag size of 19, so he didn't feel it was worth including because of its low mag size) I don't currently have any guns that would be my first choice of a handgun to carry while out hiking in the woods. Although I'm saving up for a S&W Mountain Gun in .44 Mag, all I have at the moment are 9mm and .45 ACP semi-autos

The .45 acp handguns are generally guns that are heavier than the 9mm making them more uncomfortable to carry all day and more difficult to conceal as well. The difference in bullet diameter between the .45 acp and the 9mm is a scant 1/10 of an inch which proves that the supposedly better killing power of the .45 acp is just an urban legend The .45 ACP pistol cartridge is popular in the United States. Its the classic debate, 9mm VS 45 acp. Some people skip the debate all together and go with a 40S&W. I do not care for the snap recoil of the 40, so I am staying with either the 9mm or the 45 acp. We mentioned earlier that the 9mm relies on hollow point ammunition to match the performance of the 45 acp .45 ACP is a very controllable defense round. The .45 ACP is regarded as a top self-defense round in terms of stopping power and recoil. Despite being heavy rounds, .45ACP recoil doesn't get in its way. The low velocity and heavy weight of the .45 is great for striking large areas and creating large wounds

In regard to 9mm versus 45 ACP, I would rather have 45 ACP, if I only got one shot. My time in LE was always with 40 S&W and I never felt undergunned where a 9mm or 45 ACP would have been adequate. The cartridge holds a bullet the same diameter as the 9mm (.355) but in a smaller case with diminished capacity (roughly speaking, 15% less than the 9mm in grains of H2O) While the .45 ACP went the heavy and slow route, the 9mm Luger took the opposite tack by shooting much lighter bullets at a higher velocity. Though he preferred the .45 ACP over the 9mm, the celebrated gun writer Jeff Cooper still wasn't satisfied with just those two choices 9mm vs. 45ACP Discussion in 'Caliber Talk: Ammunition, Reloading, and Shooting ' started by Cimarronkid, Sep 11, 2020 at 10 Carry an AK 47 if you need more than a 1911 with 8 or 9 rounds of .45 acp I chose a fat heavy bullet to impact max energy, after all I would not bet my life on that .355 opening up to .451 everytime
No 45 ACP, 9 mm Parabellum, 308 Winchester, 30-06, or 5.56 mm. So much for my grandfather's Model 70 Winchester 30-06 deer rifle. I have a 1911 in 38 Super, a Glock in 40 S&W, and a Sig-Sauer in 357 Sig. None of these weapons have the man stopping power of the 45 Auto While .380 ACP is x17mm Vs. 9mm Luger's x19mm, it is not 11% less powder or 11% less energy. Case length does not equate to either of those measurements. The other side of the equation for energy is the weight of the bullet, .380 ACP normally tops out at about 100gr bullets while 9mm normally doesn't start until at least 115gr .45 ACP users are mostly EDC personal defense carriers and those that love the big bores. With 9mm and .40, a decent shooter can get consistent hits on a steel popper at 120+ yards, standing unsupported. .45 ACP and GAP seem to run out of gas around 90-100 yards. After that, hits get pretty sporadic Of 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP, .40 S&W would offer the best out of the box emergency performance since it has the greatest penetration potential. That being said all of them can't hold a candle to proper woods protection calibers if you're talking about animals dangerous enough to specifically consider when selecting a handgun to carry The power advantage goes to the 45 acp, but not much. Both the 40 and 45 have the same ability to stop an attacker with just one shot at 94/100. The 9mm has 91/100. Not much difference. The 9mm is cheaper to shoot, has less recoil, and holds more rounds. Plus the fact that it is unmeasurably close to the 40 and 45 in power- makes it the optimal.
To keep it particular to the 9mm vs .45 debate, assuming both are similarly jacketed, .45 as a subsonic round and a larger projectile will produce a larger amount of impact trauma on the target. The 9mm typically holds more rounds than the .45; A .45 is nearly twice the price of a 9mm; Honestly, there is no correct answer to settle the .45 ACP vs 9mm debate, as both guns serve different functions. Think of the .45 as a hand cannon that has the power of two 9mm rounds in every shot
